 Humanities Division

            The Humanities Division

New opportunities in an ever-changing world

Vernette Ferdinand, Chairperson

To serve the needs of the College, the Division offers courses which meet the general education requirements to complete the associate degree and lower division transfer requirements.  Courses are also taught to fulfill the requirements of the College Prep Programme.  The Division delivers a variety of English Language courses at the College Prep level, Foreign Languages and Communication.  Ongoing course revision and creation ensure that the Humanities Division meets the needs of the other disciplines.  In this vein, the Division will offer The Pleasures of Children's Literature in Spring, 2006, to facilitate the Primary Education Programme.  Other courses in literature and reading are being considered to expand the Division's offerings.

Courses delivered in this Division help students to improve their oral and written skills to express themselves clearly and accurately.  Students also develop the ability to thing critically in order to understand and analyze the complex moral, cultural and political issues of the real world so they will be able to contribute to society in meaningful ways.

As the Division expands and develops, one of its current projects is the establishment of a Writing and Reading Centre which will provide students with additional practice and individual attention.

The Humanities Division is the heart of the College as it comes into contact with all the students.  It is therefore dedicated to providing opportunities for the development and enrichment of the whole person as students are guided towards self-knowledge and self-actualization.
This Division offers courses which meet the general education requirements to complete the associate degree and lower division transfer requirements.
