 Academic Policies and Regulations
Academic Year

The Academic Year consists of two fourteen week semesters and one seven week summer session.  The Academic Year begins with the Fall Semester and ends with the completion of the Summer Session.

Academic Calendar

During registration each student is issued a copy of the College's Calendar for the Academic Year.  Additional copies may be obtained from the Records Office or the receptionist.

 

Instructional Hour

During a Spring and Fall Semesters, classes usually run for a period of fifteen weeks. 

 

During the Summer Session, classes run for a period of seven (7) weeks. 

Fifty minutes constitutes an hour for a class period.

 

College Day

Classes are scheduled between the hous of  9:00 am and 10:00 pm  weekdays and 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Saturdays.  Students have the flexibility of selecting day or evening courses.

 

Classification of Students

 Students may enroll in the college in any of the following categories:

 

Full time student - student registered for twelve (12) or more credits or four (4) courses.

Part time student - those students enrolled in nine credits or less or three (3) courses

Continuing Education Student - students enrolled in one of our short certificate courses.

Transient student - these students are enrolled in another institution but wish to pursue a credited course at BBCC for transfer to that institution.        Top of page

  Governing Policy

 

Students are governed by the Programme Policies in effect at the time of their initial registration.  Re-admitted students are subject  to the programme requirements and degree in effect upon their return.

 

Change of Programme

 

Students who elect to change their programme of study should complete a Change of Programme Form in consultation with their Academic Advisor.  Change of Programme Forms may be obtained from the Records Office. There is a fee or this service.  (SEE FINANCIAL INFORMATION)

 

Re-admissions

Students who have been away from the College for one year or more are required to apply to the College for Re-admission. This request is to be in writing, indicating why they have been away from the College. A Re-admission Form must also be completed, with payment of a Re-admission Fee.  Additionally, students requesting Re-admission to the College must submit a medical record form.

Transfer of Credits

 

Transfer of credits are normally awarded at the beginning of a students' studies at BBCC.  Students may transfer a maximum of thirty credits (30) with grades of "C" or higher when admitted. All transfer credits must be approved by the Division Chairperson and the Academic Dean.

 

Period of Candidacy

The Period of Candidacy (time limit(for candidates of Associate of Arts Degree is as follows:

 

Full-time Students- A maximum of 4 years and Part-time Students -  A maximum of 6 years.

 

The Period of Candidacy for candidates of the College Preparatory Programme is as follows:

 

Full-time Students  - A maximum of 2 years and Part-time Students - A maximum of 3 years.

 

Students who do not complete their course of study within these prescribed times will have their registration in both the programme and the College cancelled. In the event of a cancellation, all grades accumulated in the programme will be cancelled and all records will be closed.       Top of page
